Jesus instructs two disciples to find a donkey and colt for Him to ride into Jerusalem. This seemingly ordinary act fulfills a prophecy of the Messiah entering Jerusalem humbly (Zechariah 9:9). Crowds gather, praising Jesus and laying palm branches in His path, echoing a scene from the Old Testament (2 Kings 9:13).
Within the temple complex, Jesus disrupts the money changers and merchants, driving them out and overturning their tables. This act demonstrates His authority and dissatisfaction with their practices, which He views as corrupt and disrespectful of the sacred space.
Throughout the chapter, Jesus uses parables to deliver complex messages. The parable of the fig tree demonstrates the power of faith. The parable of the two sons criticizes those who reject God’s will, while the parable of the evil tenants exposes the hypocrisy of the religious leaders who fail to bear the fruit God expects.
