Summary of Matthew 2

After Jesus is born in Bethlehem, wise men from the East arrive in Jerusalem, following a star that they believe signifies the birth of a new king. King Herod, disturbed by this news, inquires with the chief priests and scribes about the prophecy of where the Messiah is to be born.

Learning it is Bethlehem, Herod devises a plan to find and eliminate the child. Warned in a dream, Joseph flees to Egypt with Mary and Jesus, where they remain until Herod’s death. An angel then instructs them to return to Israel, where they settle in Nazareth.
