Summary of Mark 16
The chapter opens with women visiting Jesus’ tomb to anoint His body and finding it empty. An angel announces the resurrection and instructs them to tell the disciples that He has risen from the dead. The women flee the tomb in fear and tell no one.
The earliest manuscripts end the Gospel of Mark at verse 8. Verses 9-20 were added later by scribes. In the longer ending, Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene, then to two disciples, and finally to all eleven apostles. He commissions them to preach the Gospel to the whole world, promising signs will follow those who believe. The Book concludes with Jesus ascending into heaven.
