Joshua Chapter 3 Summary

Joshua chapter 3 marks a pivotal moment in the Israelites’ journey to the Promised Land. Following Moses’ death, Joshua assumes leadership and prepares the people to cross the Jordan River, the final barrier before entering Canaan.

Summary of Joshua 3

Joshua instructs the Israelites to prepare themselves for crossing the Jordan River, emphasizing the need for holiness and reverence. The Ark of the Covenant, a symbol of God’s presence, is carried by priests at the forefront of the procession, leading the way across the river.

Miraculously, as the priests carrying the Ark step into the Jordan, the upstream waters are miraculously stopped, creating a dry path for the Israelites to cross on foot. The priests stand firm in the middle of the riverbed holding the Ark aloft until the entire nation has safely crossed. Only after everyone is on dry land do the waters return to their normal flow.
