Summary of Genesis Chapter 27
In Genesis 27, Isaac anticipates his death and desires to bless his elder son, Esau. Isaac, blind and frail, instructs Esau to prepare him a savory meal before receiving the blessing. Overhearing these plans, Rebekah, favoring her younger son Jacob, devises a scheme to deceive Issac into blessing Jacob instead.
Rebekah instructs Jacob to impersonate Esau by covering himself with goat skins (to mimic Esau’s hairy body) and preparing a different dish. Jacob deceives Isaac, who, despite his suspicions due to Jacob’s smooth skin, bestows the blessing upon him.
When Esau returns, a conflict erupts, leading to anger and resentment. Fearing Esau’s wrath, Rebekah advises Jacob to flee to her brother Laban until Esau’s rage subsides.
