Summary of Genesis Chapter 12
In Genesis 12, God calls Abram (later renamed Abraham) to leave his homeland and family and journey to a land he will reveal. This land, later identified as Canaan, is promised to become a great nation through Abram’s descendants.
Abram, accompanied by his wife Sarai and his nephew Lot, embarks on this journey of faith and obedience. They travel to Canaan, where God reaffirms the promise of the land and instructs Abram to build an altar there.
Due to a famine, they travel to Egypt, where Abram presents Sarai as his sister to protect himself from harm. This deception inadvertently leads to Pharaoh’s intervention and their departure from Egypt.
