Exodus chapter 7 picks up with God empowering Moses to confront Pharaoh.
Summary of Exodus Chapter 7
The chapter opens with God telling Moses that he will be seen as a god to Pharaoh, with Aaron as his prophet. Despite knowing Pharaoh will resist, God instructs Moses to demand the Israelites be released, threatening a series of demonstrations of His power if Pharaoh refuses.
God equips Moses and Aaron to perform a miracle to persuade Pharoah to listen to their request. They throw down their staffs which turn into snakes. However, Pharoah summons his own Egyptian sorcerers and magicians who are able to perform the same miracle. In a divine turn of events, the staffs of Moses and Aaron swallow up the Egyptian’s staffs.
The chapter ends with God unleashing the first plague on Egypt: the Nile River turning into blood. But Pharoah’s heart became hardened as a response.
