Summary of Esther Chapter 6

King Ahasuerus, unable to sleep, has the chronicles read to him. He discovers Mordecai’s act of saving the king from assassination, prompting him to consider how to reward such loyalty.

Unaware of Mordecai’s identity, the king asks Haman, who is plotting against Mordecai, how one should be honored. Haman, envisioning himself as the recipient of such honor, describes an elaborate public display of recognition. Ironically, the king commands Haman to bestow this very honor upon Mordecai, forcing Haman to publicly elevate his enemy.

Haman carries out the king’s orders, humiliated and defeated. Haman’s advisors and wife warn him that his pride and arrogance will lead to his downfall.
