Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 Summary

Ecclesiastes chapter 3 explores the concept of divinely ordained seasons in life. The passage opens with the statement: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” This verse sets the stage for a series of contrasting pairs, highlighting the cyclical nature of life’s experiences.

For example, there’s a time for birth and a time for death, to tear down and to build, to search and to give up, for planting and harvesting, for war and for peace.

The question is then raised, “What do workers gain from their toil?” The answer: to find satisfaction in all their toil, regardless of the outcome. God makes everything beautiful in its time, and there is nothing new under the sun. Everything has already been, and what will be has been before. There is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot.
