Summary of Genesis Chapter 47

In Genesis 57, Joseph introduces his brothers to Pharaoh, requesting permission for them to settle in the fertile region of Goshen. Pharaoh readily grants this request, recognizing Joseph’s authority and valuing his family’s skills as shepherds. Jacob, upon meeting Pharaoh, receives a blessing.

The chapter then depicts the unfolding famine. Joseph, having foreseen the famine through dreams, had stockpiled grain. Egyptians and Canaanites alike come to Joseph to purchase food, exchanging their money and eventually their livestock and land for sustenance. Through these transactions, Joseph amasses great wealth for Pharaoh and ensures the survival of his own family.
